Meet Borislava Karadjova, the brilliant illustrator behind our summery puzzle "A Good Year." Her vibrant, sun-drenched artwork perfectly captures the warmth and abundance of the season, making us eager to collaborate with her for these golden months. We caught up with her and chatted about what sparks her creativity in summer, her favorite warm-weather inspirations, and who she'd invite to her dream dinner party.
What’s one thing we should know about you?
I want to illustrate the world.
What puts you in the mood to create?
Reading a good book, diving into history or art videos, or simply opening Photoshop—sometimes, that’s all I need.
What’s your favorite rule or rule to break?
Always think positive—especially when it’s the hardest to do. And draw every day. Rule to break? You don’t have to follow every piece of advice if it doesn’t feel right.
If you had to live in another place it would be…
Close to the city, even closer to nature. A French-windowed house, a lush garden with a pool, and my glass-walled studio nestled beside it.
A current cultural obsession?
Book libraries.
Ideal dinner venue or menu?
A beautiful garden wrapped in trees, where the only sounds are silence, birdsong, and the nearby river. The menu? Anything Pierce Abernathy would cook, paired with French 75 cocktails.
Who’s joining?
Alessandro Michele, Joe Alwyn, Jonathan Anderson, Bella Freud, David Hockney
A few books for the coffee table?
David Hockney & Elvis Presley by Taschen, Timeless Paris by Marin Montague
What's the last thing you listened to?
I Got You Babe by Bahamas
First thing you’d grab in a fire?
My family photos and journal, and my hard drives.
What were you most grateful for when you woke up this morning?
For my comfortable bed and fluffy pillows.
